Awareness campaign against child labour in brick factories in Morang

Biratnagar : A campaign has started in Morang to create awareness against child labour in brick factories. The drive against child labour follows a study carried out in 23 brick factories in 14 districts in the east jointly by the Global Fairness Incentive Nepal and Greater Brick Nepal, NGOs, which found a rampant use of child labour.

The NGOs at a press conference stressed the need for freeing brick factories in the districts of child labour, providing health security to workers, creating work-friendly environment, and managing accommodation for workers.

President of the Incentive Nepal Hom Nath Acharya viewed that brick factories should be developed as industries, and action be taken against those using child labour.
Likewise, President of the Greater Brick Dilli Ram Giri stressed the need for making laws for controlling child labour at brick factories.

Around 600,000 children are engaged in the total 1,294 brick factories across the country, according to available data. Brick worth more than Rs 500 million is produced every year, and there is a plan to increase the production to around Rs 5 billion by 2020.
